House in Chelsea

This project consists into a reconstruction of 19th century town house in Chelsea.
The proposal transforms habitats of a typical Victorian implant into a contemporary family home, which also includes a double underground extension to compensate at the restricted original above-ground footprint.
The lower ground floor which previously was suffering from low ceiling heights, poor natural light and convoluted access from the floor above, now result generous with circa 3m floor to ceiling height, as per the no.2 floors below.
Ground and Lower ground floors extend to the back of the property with a glass box, enhancing formal and visual connection with the garden, while maximising incoming natural light and quality of living.
Front and back lightwells convoy natural lights at 10m below ground into little bamboo gardens.
The seven floors are served through a continuous sculptural staircase from top to bottom.
All throughout full height doors and bespoke built-in joinery celebrate the high ceilings with a refined and consistent palette.
