Bristol town house
A complete reconstruction by NENMAR of a four-storey Italianate villa extending over 5,000 sq ft, originally built in the mid-19th century and located within the prestigious Clifton and Hotwells Conservation Area in Bristol.
Over time, and through successive alterations by different occupants, the property gradually lost much of its original character, with its spatial clarity and architectural integrity significantly diluted. NENMAR’s design approach responds to this condition by carefully reinstating the defining qualities of the historic building, restoring proportion, hierarchy, and key period features that once articulated its identity.
At the same time, NENMAR reimagines the internal arrangement to support a more fluid and contemporary way of living, tailored to modern family life. Spaces are opened up, connections strengthened, and natural light drawn deeper into the plan, creating a sequence of calm, legible interiors across all four levels.
New interventions are expressed with clarity and restraint, establishing a subtle yet deliberate contrast between old and new. Material selection and detailing are approached with precision, ensuring that contemporary elements complement rather than compete with the restored fabric.
The result is a cohesive and enduring home by NENMAR that balances heritage and contemporar, respecting the villa historic character while equipping it for long-term, high-quality living.
